Me again... Stone facade question...


Me again Bloggers....

As I was browsing the internet looking for our exterior color pallet and stone choices, I came across RH that had their stone facade wrapped around the side and rear of their homes. But then as I searched more, I also saw some RH that did not have this. 

So...my question for today is, is the facade wrap-around standard for the house or not? And if not, how is this an option for other communities and did any of you have a choice to add it if it was a custom add-on? 

I'm crossing my fingers it's standard to have it wrapped-around because we have a walk-out basement lot and I despise having to look at the awful cement at the base of the house!!

  1. Hi!! I saw that you posted pics of my house! The wrap around facade came with our elevation. I'm not sure if the elevations vary by community/state or not. We didn't have to pay extra to have it wrapped around. My suggestion would be to look at the blue prints of your elevation to see exactly where the stone will stop goin up the sides, front and back. Then you can see if the stone is included in the back. I have seen other models whee the stone stays low to the ground on the sides and back but higher up on the front. Your elevation is beautiful by the way! Can't wait to see it go up! I know what you mean about the colors of siding/shaker. My husband and I wanted blues or greens but they weren't offered in our community. They had a yellow but I was too scared to take the risk! Some of the new houses in my community have the yellow with the stone similar to mine and it's beautiful...

    1. Thanks Melissa for your comment & browsing our pages. Yes...since we couldn't get the darker green or slate blue siding with stone (initially we were looking to do a "mountain style craftsman look") we turned to looking at the traditional approach. We love how your colors came out!! As for the stone, we actually were only supposed to get brick with our elevation, but our SR helped us get the approval for the stone. I'll have to look at the blue prints but I'm guessing it won't wrap around. In fact, I can't recall if any in our community do...over 50% have sold now. I have a feeling I'm gonna be stuck with looking at the unpleasant cement. Unless, we have it done but that will have to wait. A list of outdoor projects once we move in this summer. ;-)

  2. Thanks for the kind words! I would look into seeing if you can pay extra to have it wrapped around. It may be more cost effective to do it now rather than later. However, I know all too much about budgets!

    1. Haha! Seriously. Not sure we can fit it in if they'd do it. There are some things, like this, I wish RH would just stay consistent with when it comes to the Buyers. Now I'm gonna have a cement eye sore in my backyard. 😉

  3. Hi. In our development the stone is extended about 2 feet on the side (many developments only have stone on the front). Our development also dictates that the roof line extends a few inches beyond the house - if you look at most RH's you will see the roof line is flush with tp the side of the house. We didn't ask for either of these design elements, it was dictated by the community. So, I'm not sure if these are things you as a home owner can ask for.

  4. In our development it's only offered on corner lots. It's an additional $3500 but you also have to pay the corner lot premium. I agree it does look gorgeous!

    1. Thanks Bridget....hubby is going to the Guardian mtg tonight at the model house. So he's going to ask but a neighbor told me none of the house have the wrap-around. I'm prepared to ask for a custom request but it'll probably be shot down and too much. :-( by the way, great job on the under cabinet lighting and the trash pull out. I'm looking at your blog who we do those projects. ;)

    1. James, hubby went to the mtg. He declined most everything. As of now, we got 4 Ethernet ports, 3 cable outlets (I may get 1 more for the playroom), cable/HDMI outlet over fireplace, 1 phone outlet. They won't do cable outlet outside (gotta do that after move-in) as we want to do an entertainment area. What did you end up getting? Did you get that cable/radio frequency package? Sounds cool but hubby doesn't want to spend the extra $900. :-( We are looking at around $820 as of now. Need to finalize by tomorrow.

  6. Stuff like this is only done if your development requires it. Just like storm doors. We couldn't get one, but there are other Ryan developments nearby where every single house has one as a requirement. Stone and brick work is usually very limited unless your neighborhood requires it. If it does, then it's built into the fixable cost, and never an option. We wanted to go full stone and they would not do it for us, at any cost. But on our elevation partial stone does everything except the upper part of the garage over the bonus bedroom. Again, a lot depends on your neighborhood and your PM. Our PM had the little sections on the side of our garage roof done in stone - the neighborhood with the required storm doors does that part in siding.

    There are so many things which may be done differently than you think because of what you saw and everything you have not seen. The only way to be sure you are getting anything is to look at the blueprints yourself. Eve doing that will be no guarantee.

    If I could give you any advice it is to not give up on what is important to you and to realize that after the dust settles and you've been living in the house a couple of years your whole perspective will change on a lot of things.

    I did a TON of blog reading and research (and then sharing on my own blog) during the whole process. That is what made the difference between a house we were okay with and a house we love!
